The waiting room. You were not sick enough to go straight to a bed. So now your banished to the waiting room and you will wait. If your in a fancy smancy community hospital, this may mean cookies, coffee, a security guard and plasma tv's. If your in the inner city, it may be piss, stool, vomit, blood and a smell only recognizeable by alien beings fascinated with an unclean truck stop. All are equal in the waiting room, there is no rich, no poor, no pretty, no ugly, no nothing, forgive my grammar, but its true. There is only frustation. Ninety percent of people are caught up in their own illness. They are only worried about their headache, their cough, their sore throat or their hurting wrists. This is what lays at the essence of their frustration. No one can imagine that the doctors inside are not eating donuts and coffee and watching that nights ballgame. They cannot imagine that a 50 year old father of 4 just had their heart stop and the young physician has beads of sweat dripping from their brow as try to place a line to provide livesaving medication. It never enters your mind that a 30 year old 500lb w woman who cant move their left side is having a stroke receiving emergent attention. Waiting in the room is painful, but be mindful important work is being done. Take a deep breath your illness is important, but another may be worse off than you.
